The last 6 months

To update what I have been working on the last six months, I spent a little while making wash/dishcloths and kitchen/hand towels, then made quite a few crocheted afghans, and the last three months, I knitted a few vests. You can see pictures of these items by visiting my Handmade Artists Shop .

Here is a picture of one of the vests that I made:

I made husband a vest for his birthday in November and my daughter one for her birthday in February and will post pictures when I can get them to model them for me.

My son is running out of socks, so I guess my next project will be making him a few pairs for his birthday in April.

Cable Knit Hat

I wanted to make a cabled hat and found a pattern on Knitting Pattern central, but I could not follow their directions for the cables, so I made up a pattern as I went along.  Here is what I did:

Caron Simply Soft yarn about ¾ of a skein
Size 6 and 8 circular needles 16 inch
Fits size 21 – 24 inch head
Gauge is not important because this hat is very stretchy

Cast 92 stitches on the smaller needle
Knit 6 pearl 7 for 3 inches
Change to larger needles and follow the pattern below:

Row 1: CB Pearl 7 to end of row
Row 2- 6: Knit 6 Pearl 7 to end of row
Repeat rows 1-6 5 times
Decrease Pearl stitches:
Knit 6 Pearl to last 2 stitches P2 together continue decreasing in the last 2 stitches at the end of each pearl section until 1 pearl stitch remains.  Changing to double pointed needles  or two size 8 circular needles when needed.
Decrease Knit stitches:
Knit to last 2 knit stiches then K2 together decreasing in the last 2 stiches at the end of each knit section until 1 knit and 1 pearl stitch remains and P1 in pearl stitch.
Continue decreasing until 8 stitches remain on the needles and cut yarn leaving a 12 inch tail and thread through remaining stitches and pull tight bringing thread to reverse side and weaving in.

***Please let me know if you have any problems following this pattern if you try it as I have never written a pattern before***

Macrame necklaces

I think it is fun to macrame with things other than hemp. Cord makes beautiful necklaces, especially metallic cord, as you can see here:

Adventures in Macrame

This past week, I have been teaching myself how to macrame.  I watched a video on YouTube and was able to figure out how to do the Chinese staircase or spiral stitch.  How is my first attempt:
Made with Black & white shoe laces

My next ones were made with variegated cotton yarn:

Then I used craft thread:

And finally I used crochet thread with gold and silver running through it and metallic cord for the red one.

Here are my latest ones:

Breast Cancer Awareness Bracelet
Macrame ID Bracelet
Bronco Bracelet
