I think it is fun to macrame with things other than hemp. Cord makes beautiful necklaces, especially metallic cord, as you can see here:

Adventures in Macrame
This past week, I have been teaching myself how to macrame. I watched a video on YouTube and was able to figure out how to do the Chinese staircase or spiral stitch. How is my first attempt:
My next ones were made with variegated cotton yarn:
And finally I used crochet thread with gold and silver running through it and metallic cord for the red one.
Here are my latest ones:

Knit (or crochet) a Square for Charity
My very first Granny Square ever! |
I have been crocheting for 30 years and can you believe that I have never made a Granny Square before, but I was inspired to try when I saw a challenge to make squares for charity. There are more than 2.8 million children in South Africa and Zimbabwe, who have been made orphaned or vulnerable as a result of HIV/AIDS and poverty. You can help by knitting or crocheting 8 " squares that will be made into blankets for them. You can find the instructions and requirements by going here: http://allfororphans.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/Knit-a-squillion.pdf
Join me and help these children!!!!

Crochet HDC bracelets
All three of these bracelets were made from a pattern I found on YouTube. I will attempt to write the instructions. This is my first time, so let me know if they are understandable.
Using a G hook, make a chain long enough to fit your wrist minus 1/4 inch. HDC in 3rd chain from hook and in each stitch across. When you come to the end chain 4 or 5 stitchs depending on the size of the bead or button you are using (I added this part) and join with a slip stitch to the other side of the bracelet. Cut off and weave in ends.
For the yellow bracelet I used 4 ply cotton yarn. For the other two I used 2 strands held together of crochet thread with metallic gold or silver threads. The yellow one had a pretty flower bead sewn on and the metallic thread ones are a pretty crystal button and a filigree bead.
What I do!
